This is a summer internship with Independent Filmmaker Sarah Schenck (BMC ’87)


This is a BMC only opportunity. The selected student will participate in the LILAC Summer Funding Program. Please apply by (1) submitting a one-page resume and cover letter through Handshake and (2) completing the LILAC Summer Internship Partners Form

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Monday, February 25th, 11:59PM ET

Students are invited to apply for a unique opportunity to work on multiple projects with Independent Filmmaker Sarah Schenck (BMC ’87). Through this summer internship the student will work with projects including Microbe Media LLC, which is producing a feature documentary titled Missing Microbes, directed and produced by Sarah Schenck and Steven Lawrence, and (2) Drawing for Good, a partnership cultivating art that makes the world a better place.

Microbe Media:
  • Outreach and distribution for independent public health feature documentary film Missing Microbes (this could include hosting screenings and discussions in educational and community settings, creating buzz via social media platforms)
  • Video editing and assistant editing (assemble rough cuts; log and load footage; coordinate with First Editor) of related web series
  • Finalize personal and location releases.
  • Prepare “Bible”: a master document with all releases, license agreements and other legal agreements for the film.
  • Assist with supervision of final voice-over recordings
  • Coordinate post-production: includes scheduling facilities and personnel for titles, animation, sound editing and mix, etc.
  • Research film festivals and coordinate submissions.
  • Research grants for engagement and educational campaigns

Drawing for Good:
·        Create spreadsheet tracking restaurants to draw in Paris (French language skills useful)
·        Arrange restaurant visits with public relations representatives
·        Research which restaurants to draw (100 maximum)
·        Conduct pre-interviews with people who have compelling BRIEF stories about Parisian restaurants (from the USA, France, elsewhere - basically, just needs to relate to a restaurant based in Paris; could be from restaurant staff, restaurant owners, restaurant patrons)
·        finish drawings in photoshop (desired, but not required)

Multimedia Meditation Manuscript (being published by Brooklyn Writers Press):
·        maintain website
·        build community

SKILLS PREFERRED NOT REQUIRED: Video editing (Premier); film-related and art-related; administrative and organization production work; French language proficiency; Photoshop proficiency. Flexibility, curiosity, diligence, and willingness to learn new things.

INTERNSHIP: 8-10 weeks starting in May soon after end of the 2019 spring semester based in New York City

ABOUT SARAH SCHENCK (BMC ’87): Sarah Schenck graduated from Bryn Mawr in 1987 as a History of Art major and a Hepburn Fellow. She continued her education at Stanford with a Masters in Political Economy. Sarah is an independent filmmaker in New York and is currently co-directing and co-producing the documentary "Missing Microbes". Some other notable works she has been a part of are the independent film, "Slippery Slope" which she wrote and directed in 2006 and the film "Virgin" which she produced in 2003.
